Commissioned by Crain Communications for their Chicago office, located in the heart of downtown across from Millennium Park, I created a 10-piece collection designed to harmonize with the dynamic energy of the space. The collection features a range of sizes, from 24x24 to 48x60, and includes a triptych that serves as a centerpiece. During my tour of the office, I was inspired by the building’s architectural details, including markings preserved from its original construction. These elements, along with the office’s prime location, became key influences in shaping the artwork.
Each piece reflects the urban surroundings, incorporating textures, lines, and the historical nuances of the building. By weaving these architectural influences into my paintings, I allowed the natural wear and history of the structure to become part of the narrative, expressed through abstract representations and textured surfaces. The preserved markings and unique features of the space are mirrored in the collection, creating a visual dialogue between the artwork and the building’s history.
The color palette was carefully curated to complement the modern design of the office and subtly echo the natural tones of Millennium Park and the surrounding cityscape. By blending these elements, the collection not only enhances the office environment but also connects it to the broader landscape of Chicago, making this commission a unique convergence of past and present in a contemporary artistic narrative.
