One of our most memorable collaborations was for the Waste to Wonder initiative, where the Girl Scouts joined me in creating a piece using clean food scraps as watercolor pigments. Together, we explored the potential of turning everyday waste into beautiful, meaningful art. Each Scout created a circle using pigments made from natural materials such as banana peels, coffee, grapefruit and hibiscus. They then cut their circles into sections, traded pieces with their fellow Scouts, and reassembled them into a collective square. This collaborative effort not only brought the girls closer together but also demonstrated how art can transform waste into wonder. Their work was showcased at the Detroit Month of Design in the theme of "Creative Currents". It was purchased by supplying restaurant of clean food waste, Alchemi, in Royal Oak where it is permanently on display. Proceeds went back to the girls to fund future programming.
