It has taken me a long time to embrace the love that is given to me and to stop seeking it where it is not. This journey has broken me many times, but it has also made me stronger. Frankly, it sucks to love and not be loved in return, or at least not in the way you wish to be loved by others. I have had to mourn the loss of what I wanted while facing what I have been given. Some days, I can accept that their love is different from what I desire, while on other days, it tears me apart.
One thing we all share as humans is the need and desire for love. We can either give it or withhold it, and when we choose the latter, it profoundly affects those around us. Imagine what it would be like if we just let ourselves love freely.
How you love others can be a choice, it doesn't have to be a reflection of your past. When you choose to love unconditionally that is when you are truly free.
